Well Data Processing and Interpretation

With the comprehensive knowledge and many years of experience in interpretation of well logging data from reservoirs of various structural complexity (both porous clastic and carbonate types with complex porous space) and various type fluid saturation, CGE is in a position to perform all required work of the processing, analysis and interpretation of PLT data for the purpose of estimating hydrocarbon reserves and building digital (2D/3D) geologic models.

  1. Creation of initial geoscience data base:
    • select and analyze a set of wells with indication of area, well drilling dates and wellhead elevations
    • give directional survey data
    • provide a summary of well log suites used
    • give wellhead coordinates
    • give well/bed intersection coordinates
    • provide bed markers supplied by Client or borrowed from legacy data
    • store Client-supplied interpreted well logs
    • store core sample analysis data
    • store well test data
    • provide a summary of perforated intervals
    • give a summary of production and injection data
  2. Well section correlation:
    • provide stratigraphic differentiation of the section into sequences, suites, units and beds with indication of key horizons made consistent with seismic data
    • provide a detailed correlation
    • generate essential geologic model maps showing sedimentation paleo-environments
    • the resultant data include: correlation schematics, summary tables of stratigraphic markers and maps of essential geologic models
  3. Well logging data processing and interpretation:
    • assess well log quality
    • analyze the core - core relationships for the purpose of building a reservoir model and updating petrophysical dependencies
    • analyze the core - log relationships to validate well log interpretation methodology
    • determine the reservoir - non-reservoir boundary values and oil - water boundary values
    • process well logs with determination of effective (net) and effective oil-and-gas-saturated thicknesses, porosities, oil-saturations and permeabilities
    • examine determined reservoir characterization values for veracity
    • run special processing of gamma-gamma logs and sonic logs with estimation of velocities, densities, lithology and saturation for the purpose of making them consistent with seismic data
    • build transition zone models
    • the resultant data include: petrophysical models of reservoirs (petrophysical equations, parameter boundary values), digital presentation of layer-by-layer and averaged bed-by-bed petrophysical interpretations of well logs, transition zone model charts

DV-Geo, software system is employed to process well logging data, allowing performance of all required procedures for lithologic differentiation, reservoir identification, measurement taking, reservoir resistivity determination, saturation definition, and computation of estimation parameters using appropriate formulae.

Well log interpretation results – reservoir intervals with definition of saturation in such intervals and computation parameters – may be presented in a foot-by-foot or layer-by-layer way as graphics or as tables of layer-by-layer or bed-by-bed processing. The results, thus obtained, may serve as the basis for estimating hydrocarbon reserves or for 3D geologic modeling of productive prospects.

The merit of the offered services in handling well logging data lies in that they are based on an immense experience accumulated by CGE personnel in interpretation of most varying geoscience data from regions of Russia and beyond and on the personnel skills to operate with large amounts of data.
